Protection for your additional expenses
Here's What's Covered
Coverage D (loss of use) pays for additional living expenses if your home becomes uninhabitable due to a covered loss. This coverage may include hotel bills, meals, and other living expenses while your home is being repaired. For example, if you must stay in a hotel for several weeks after a house fire, Coverage D may cover these costs, up to your policy's limit.
How Much Coverage Do I Need?
Coverage limits for loss-of-use are typically set at 10% of your Coverage A (dwelling) limit on your homeowners insurance policy or 20% of Coverage C of your condo insurance policy. This should be evaluated based on your family's needs and local rental market rates amongst other factors.
